Background:  In the largest international rescue by any rescue group in Texas, Gold Ribbon Rescue is rescuing and rehoming orphaned Golden Retrievers from Turkey.  Most of these Goldens have been living on the streets of Istanbul, some in overcrowded shelters. Istanbul’s struggle with a large population of stray animals dates back more than 100 years. Some people estimate that the number of stray dogs on the city’s streets exceeds 50,000 — not including the dogs that live in the city’s 30-plus animal shelters.

Volunteers at many Istanbul shelters are working with Gold Ribbon Rescue as well as other golden retriever rescue groups in the US to help give these dogs a better life, including finding love and affection, a home to live in, needed medical care and a cushion to sleep on.

Ideal Home: Someone who is home much of the time, a fenced yard (no invisible fence), and children in the household 8 years or over.  One or more friendly dogs in the home is desirable.  Adoptees should also live in central Texas (no out of state adoptions). Because of the high transportation cost, the adoption fee is $600.

We do not guarantee the availability of the dog that you have expressed interest in as it may be matched to another waiting family.  However, there are always new dogs available as rescue is dynamic.  We appreciate your interest in adopting a rescued golden.
