Pearl is a 6 year-old Golden Retriever who has spent her life as a faithful breeding dog, raising many litters of puppies. Yet Pearl herself has never known the simple joy of being someone’s beloved dog. She has never curled up on the couch with her person, never had the freedom to explore her own yard, and never fallen asleep knowing she was safe and home.
Pearl is a big-hearted sweetheart, but she is also a very frightened girl. Loud or unfamiliar sounds make her jump, and sometimes she voices her fear because she doesn’t yet understand the world around her. New spaces overwhelm her, so she often retreats to the comfort of her safe spot. But even through all of this, her tail never stops wagging. It’s as if hope itself is alive inside of her.
She is especially tender with women, and when she feels secure, she leans in for hugs and melts into your arms as though she’s been waiting her whole life for that moment. Outside, her joy shines through—her tail flies, and she looks like she wants to leap up and hug you, though she isn’t quite sure how. She is trying her very best to figure out how to be a dog, how to be an indoor dog, and how to trust that love is hers to keep.
Pearl needs a family with the gentlest of hearts. A calm, confident dog by her side, a fenced-in yard to roll in and explore, and humans who will give her the one thing she’s never had—time, patience, and unconditional love.
