GRR would like to shine the “Golden Spotlight” on Molly (24-092)! Molly came to GRR by way of GRRNT (Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas), after she was purchased by an older couple as a puppy. One of Molly’s original owners fell ill and passed away; then the spouse was moving out of state and decided Miss Molly needed a different home.
She arrived in the care of one of GRR’s wonderful families as an overweight, dirty, matted and frightened girl who had been fed only table scraps, was not house trained, was afraid to go outside and was terrified of the car. Considering the circumstances, Molly’s new family had quite the challenge on their hands. Luckily for Molly, she was blessed to be taken in by the most wonderful couple who patiently and devotedly did not give up on her. They noted that nothing motivated her to go outdoors —not treats, not toys, not praise. Even with fellow dogs in the home to “follow,” Molly was not taking the bait! After several months of waiting her out (in the Texas summer heat), she finally began to venture outside. The family discovered that Molly loved water, so turning the sprinkler on was one way to lure her out the door!
Eight months later, Molly has come so far! She has become more confident in her home/backyard, she has learned to get along with her fellow canine companions, and most importantly, her physical health has improved so much. She no longer pants constantly, no longer struggles to get up and down from the floor, or has her legs buckling due to excess weight. Molly has also learned that eating like a regular dog isn’t so bad after all and she gallops joyfully to her place and polishes off her dish. She has learned how much fun it is to zoom around the backyard, leap onto the bed with ease, and of course, chase the squirrels! A perky, cute personality has emerged, and Molly has wild moments where she hurls toys around, rolls on her back with legs kicking, and has an all-out puppy frenzy! She is still not keen on going out in the front yard; however, all things considered, her successes and progress are truly heartwarming.
Thank you, GRR, for providing Molly with a new beginning in a family where she is able to learn and grow in her own time, is cherished and loved, and can continue to blossom each and every day!
