Personality: There is still a lot to learn about Shilah because he is currently under exercise restrictions from his “boy” surgery and wearing either that annoying lampshade or big e-collar around his neck. That’s enough to subdue anybody! But Shilah’s foster is seeing those certain little sparks that indicate what kind of golden he’ll be when he’s free to be himself. He’s an outgoing boy and has bursts of crazy energy, but in general he’s pretty laid back – a real “guy’s guy” who doesn’t need a lot of activity to be happy.

Since Shilah is so laid back, he’s pretty low maintenance and grateful for any and all attention. You can tell that maybe moments of attention were few and far between before he came to GRR. Oh, and he loves being brushed and fussed over. Right now, he’s not showing much interest in toys, but that darned old collar may have something to do with that. It’s hard to pick up something with a lampshade on your head!

Shilah is good in the car and so far there have been no “accidents” in the house. He’s calm and quiet inside and loves to loll on the cool tile floor. He doesn’t use a crate and sleeps peacefully through the night in his foster’s laundry room. There is some work to be done when it comes to walking on a leash. He’s quite the puller, as if he has never been given any leash training. But that is nothing that can’t easily be fixed!

Ideal Family: Shilah likes children but seems to have a pretty strong aversion to cats. He likes other dogs, but is not too fond of the smaller variety. So a family with kids that are 10 or older that is willing to give him all the attention it seems he’s missed out on in the past would be good for Sam. Other dogs in the family that are near his size would be fine, but no little dogs and definitely no cats!
