Personality: Shadow came to GRR as a stray from the San Antonio animal shelter. Not much is known about his past life, but given his condition when he came to GRR we believe he was kept primarily outdoors and was rarely, if ever, let inside the house. He was covered in fleas, ticks, dirt and matted fur. He was very shy and scared when he first came to us, but in less than a week has opened up and his personality is shining through.

Shadow is an easy going happy dog that just wants to be loved. His name is perfect for him as he loves following his foster mom all around the house and is never more than a few feet away from her. He is still learning about house manners but quickly mastered using a doggy door and has only had a few accidents in the house. Shadow likes to watch tv and try to figure out where all the strange noises are coming from. He constantly will "give paw" to anyone who will take it or pet him and could use some training to prevent unintentionally scratching when he does this. He's a bit of a needy guy that needs to be showered with love and affection. He loves playing in the backyard where he can run and roll around in the leaves. He gets along well with his foster sister and cousin and likes to run with the pack around the backyard. Shadow has even learned to get along with chickens and no longer will chase them around the yard. He's heartworm positive and will be undergoing heartworm treatment so time will tell how playful and active he will be once he gets healthy. For now he is content napping and lounging around the house most of the day. Shadow will bolt out an open door so special care must be taken to ensure he can not escape.

Special Needs: Shadow has some separation anxiety and would do well in a home where someone is home most of the day. Shadow aims to please but still needs some direction and training to show him the way. He is very smart and obedience training would do him good.

Ideal home: Shadow would do best in a home where someone can lavish attention on him constantly. He walks well on a leash and would enjoy a daily walk or jog in addition to plenty of backyard time. He would be just fine with someone that is a homebody and is a great partner to cuddle and watch Netflix with. Shadow still needs some socialization so he can become comfortable around strange people and dogs and so he can learn how to act while in public.
