Personality: Zoey is a SWEETHEART with sad beginnings, but a lot of hope in her future.  She is the essence of why rescue is so very important, and why Gold Ribbon Rescue works tirelessly to help Goldens in need.

Sweet Zoey was found as a stray dog in Killen, Texas by a good Samaritan.  We suspect that Zoey was dumped, because she was found exhausted, dehydrated, and suffering from health issues such as a foot infection, fleas, matted fur, goopy eyes, and ear infections.  Thankfully, a local family took Zoey into their home for a little love and TLC.  At first Zoey didn’t want to eat or drink, but she eventually started coming around.  Despite not feeling well, sweet Zoey still woke her caretakers up in the morning with a lick to the face – an adorable gesture that speaks to her true and gentle nature.

After getting Zoey through the toughest days, the good Samaritan transferred her to Gold Ribbon Rescue care to continue her recovery and to find a loving home.  It appears that Zoey was someone’s dog in her earlier days but was later dumped when she was no longer wanted – she is housetrained, crate-trained and knows a few commands as well.  She also is very well-behaved during bath time!  Although she still doesn’t feel well, Zoey appears to be dog-friendly and sweet/gentle with children.  She feels safe in her crate, but does get a bit timid and nervous outside of her “safety spot” – again, we think this is likely due to her low energy and health at the moment.  With time, patience, and love, we’re hoping Zoey will blossom into the happy Golden she deserves to be.

Ideal home: Zoey would do well in a home that is relatively quiet and calm.  Considering what Zoey has been through, she needs a family who can be patient, love her, and care for her.  She does really well in her crate, so a family who goes to work/school would be just fine.  If you think you are the ideal family for this special girl, please submit an application or reach out to one of the matchmakers for more information!
