Personality:

Althea’s name evokes a calm, refined, gentle lady, well-mannered in all regards. Our young Althea has a decidedly altered version of that character --  She is a rock star ROCKET!!!! On a daily basis she redefines the top end of the energy scale, making life with Althea anything but calm and always full of adventure!  She has all the characteristics that define an outstanding agility dog – intelligence, curiosity, desire to please, and great physical strength/dexterity.  Given her over-the-top age-appropriate behavior, the missing ingredient is an active forever family that is committed to serving up large helpings of exercise and training.  As part of her care, her GRR fosters are introducing her to proper indoor manners since she “re-decorated” the house early on and went into high gear counter surfing. She is house trained (zero accidents), and lets her needs be known by going to the back door and “talking”.  On her walks, her fosters’ mature Golden Retriever demonstrates proper leash etiquette to her.   Althea gets so excited about all the sights and scents, it soon becomes a tug-of-war to keep her on the desired path. With her size and strength, more leash training is indicated!

For all of her high energy hijinks, she can also wind up in your lap on the couch, graciously accepting belly rubs. When you’ve just had enough of Althea, she lays her head on your chest to snuggle. (Smart girl).  She literally runs circles around the fosters’ older Golden, giving him a puppy bow, while trying to instigate a round of play with him. Her personality is infectious.    Everything is a game with her.  She definitely is a retriever, and loves to bring the ball back, but is working on the “release” part of the ball exchange just yet. Her ability to retrieve forever indicates she would likely be a great partner for someone who jogs daily.

Althea travels in the car very well, and appears not the least bit scared of thunder or loud noises.  While she is very friendly around other dogs, her reaction to cats is unknown at this point.

Althea sleeps through the night, and has become the unofficial alarm clock with a precise setting of 6:30 am. Bright eyed, re-charged, giving kisses to everyone, she is ready to go again!

Althea is out to show the world that not all “Altheas” are shy and demurring. In her world, the fun starts at the drop of a hat, and will continue until you say “UNCLE!” Are you ready? She is ready right now and looking for you. With consistent love and attention, she will become an amazing family member.

Ideal Home:    This young girl would be best in a forever home with active adults (no young children). She would prefer having someone at home with her during the day if possible. A family that enjoys releasing her high energy in engaging daily activities is definitely a requirement, since this girl needs a job to do!
