Scooby
Update:01/14/10
Scooby moved into his foster home right before the New Year. At first it was quite the rodeo! Scooby was pretty stressed and spent a lot of time jumping on foster Mom and Dad. But it only took a few days for him to start settling down:
He’s really being such an excellent dog now, just changed so quickly. Guess that means he's getting used to the house. He does still tend to jump and “riot” when he's excited, when we let him out of the crate when we get home, or let him back in the house after a potty break. But the water bottle trick has worked great! I only had to spritz him three times, and ever since I just have to pick up the bottle and he stops jumping.
We found out that he LOVES tug-o-war. Not so interested in retrieving a ball but he has played tug-o-war with me and our dog Buddy. Buddy can be kind of territorial, and when he’s on the couch with me, he tends to “snark” at Scooby when Scooby wants affection too. But when he growls, Scooby walks away. I think he’s understanding his place better. We have found out that he’s a real cat chaser, so a no-kitty home would be best for him.
Scooby is also a BIG cuddler. He doesn't know his size (like most Goldens) and wants to be in my lap constantly. That’s when he’s at his calmest, when you are loving him and giving him all your attention. Brushing is another big favorite of Scooby’s. He loves water—even when I'm actually in the shower he tries as hard as he can to get in there with me. He's also taught Kevin to put the seat down on the toilet, because his favorite water is toilet water!
Scooby is 100% housebroken, and he’s a great car rider. He walks well with a pinch collar. Definitely needs to be walked daily (at the very least), he loves it! With the pinch collar, anyone can walk him (I'm very petite and had no problems). He LOVES feeding time and never leaves a crumb behind in his bowl or any of our two dogs’ bowls either. He knows DOWN, SHAKE (but only when there are treats), & SIT, and we're still working on NO. He seems to be especially fond of men, but of course will take any attention he can get from anyone.
Scooby is just such a sweetheart and desires to do nothing but please his owners. He WANTS to learn and he tries to be the best dog he knows how to be everyday! He's going to make such a good dog for someone who is willing to really work on his training and socialization and give him lots of activity (mental and physical). We're so excited for his future!
Here’s a wonderful pair of young Goldens, all ready to move into your home! Blonde Daphne, age 3, and her friend Scooby, age 4, are great with kids—“wonderful!” says their owner. “I love to watch them play with the kids.” Unfortunately, the newest baby in the household is terribly allergic to dogs, so the two former indoor pets are having to live outside until a new home can be found. Scooby is a typical nice, big, friendly, happy guy. Daphne is a petite blondie, just a little bit shyer than her friend. We’d love to bring them in soon. They’re good with other dogs, but we don’t have any info about cats – no kitties in the household.
If you can give either of these great dogs a home—foster or forever—for the New Year, please e-mail surrender2@grr-tx.com. If you are already an approved GRR foster or adoptive home, that’s a plus, but if you aren’t, just visit http://www.grr-tx.com/adoption/index.html, read through the information, and fill out the adoption application (the applications for adopting and fostering are exactly the same). We will do our best to speed you through the process!
