Ladylily
Update: 01/11/10
Pretty Ladylily is still the sweetest dog ever! She’s calm and gentle and low energy, though she does like to play in her low-key way… she will bring you a toy and engage in a little gentle tug-of-war. A true lady, she enjoys “going to the beauty salon,” that is, being brushed and having baths. And she’s well on the way to regaining her girlish figure (she was a bit plump when she first came into our home).
This girl is just so loveable. Gets along well with other dogs but really loves people more than anything. I can’t say enough good things about her. (Well, she WILL chew the occasional sock left on the floor.) When snoozing or being petted, she makes a groaning sound that is so cute and funny.
I think an older person or couple would really enjoy Ladylily. All this girl asks is a little gentle exercise and a lot of cuddling & companionship!
Up

This sweet red-headed girl came to GRR when her owner could no longer care for her. Her foster family reports:
Ladylily had the whole world on her shoulders when we picked her up to bring her home. There was a sadness in her eyes that broke my heart. You could tell she had been through more than any dog should. Her neck was bright red and she had no hair on her neck and chest. I ran my hand down her back and felt the scabs from her dermatitis. She hopped in to the back seat of my car and plopped down. She remained calm the entire ride home. Once I opened the door to our home, she became a new dog. She started wagging her tail and already appeared happier and brighter.
Ladylily is a sweetheart in all the ways that a sweetheart can be described. She loves companionship and wants to be wherever you are. She follows me around the house and stops to take a little nap wherever I end up staying still. She loves to play with toys and became particularly close to a stuffed duck… now a formerly stuffed duck! She gutted it quickly and now proudly carries the skeleton around in her mouth like a prize. I went to the store and bought her a tuffie—which is supposed to be chew resistant. Let's just say that now a skeleton of a once-stuffed octopus has joined the duck. But to be fair, Ladylily is the BEST dog I have ever had in the house. She has never had a accident and we leave her to roam the house while we are gone. She has never chewed up anything of ours or any furniture, just her toys. I am very thankful for this. It makes her all the more special.
Ladylily is a lazy soul. She loves to lounge and if allowed loves to crawl into bed or take a nap with you on the couch. She eats fast and loves her daily meals, but at the same time is not an annoying beggar. She does look you in the eyes like she is trying to hypnotize you into giving her your food, but she never jumps or steals or begs. She is on a special food for overweight seniors, including Omega-3s for her skin. She has to have her meals spaced out because she is a gulper. Actually we timed her and she finished each of her three daily meals within 30 seconds flat. Impressive! However, she has already lost 4 pounds and greatly enjoys her long walks. But as much as she loves her walks, she runs to the front door. She loves to be home. She is being treated with antibiotics and special baths for her skin, which has already improved immensely! Benadryl is the simple fix which has been helping her itching.
We had a large group of people over one weekend and she did so well. Everyone who meets her just falls in love. My guests enjoyed rubbing her belly and she loved them. I was very impressed by how well she tolerated the noise and all the people coming and going. She simply grabbed a comfy spot in the living room and camped out in the midst of it all.
We have a small lap dog, Brian, who is a little protective and territorial and can be a bit overbearing at times to other dogs. Ladylily has taken it all in stride and learned that Brian's food bowl is off limits. She does seem a little confused as to why Brian gets to sit in our laps, and you can see a little regret in her eyes as she sends up a small wish to the heavens that SHE was small enough to cuddle with us like Brian does.
Ladylily is a keeper! She is a lover above all. Sure, she can fetch and sit and needs a little more work walking on a leash but above all, she loves. You can see in her sweet face that her job in life, her sole purpose, is to love a human unconditionally! We really hope she finds a good home where someone can love and dote on her the way she deserves. More to come I'm sure!
