Bliss

Dropped off at the shelter by her owners, pretty Bliss immediately attracted a potential adoptive home. But then it turned out that she was heartworm positive—not to mention in heat,  and suffering from such badly infected ears that the shelter elected to sedate her and deep-clean them before  releasing her to rescue (they spayed her, too).

“I love this dog!!!” said the GRR volunteer who picked her  up. “The original owners claimed she’d been snippy with people, but the shelter’s temperament tester didn’t see any signs of this… and neither did the shelter director, the adoption coordinator, or the couple who originally planned to adopt her… and neither did I. I played with her, touched her all over, gave her a toy and  took it back, gave her treats, put my hand in her food bowl—no bad reactions at all. Nobody knows what the owners were talking about…? She DID try to climb into my lap when she saw kids at the shelter and also at PetSmart, so maybe she’s had some nervous-making encounters with children  in the past? But she is great! She rode beautifully in the car after I put her in the kennel (she kept trying to help me drive before). At PetSmart, people would approach her and she would sit and wait for them to pet her. She was even great with this yappy Pomeranian who kept jumping on her. She picked out a shiny hot pink collar with sparkly crowns on it, because she is the princess. (I laid three on the floor for her pick from and that is the one she chose.) I am so glad we have her!”

Princess Bliss still needs to get those ears cleared up, and then there’s the heartworm treatment—but  before you know it, she’ll get the “all clear” for adoption. More news coming as we get to know her better!
