Beatrice

We describe Beatrice as a “party girl” who is always up for a good time!  She’s smart, good (trustworthy loose in the house), healthy & peppy.  She’s crazy for walks, just loves them! Playing with other dogs is fun, too, and she’s great with all ages. A truly social girl, she adores the nightly Dog Drive, which lets her monitor all the neighborhood  goings-on in climate-controlled comfort.

Throughout  her busy day, Beatrice loves to relax with the family. In the evening, she enjoys cuddling on the couch, watching TV.  Once in awhile, she'll decide to spend the night curled up in my big leather chair.

She is outgoing and kisses our houseguests (human and canine).  Watch out when you climb out of the shower—she'll put her cold nose on your bare skin! And every now and then, when she’s overflowing with joie de vivre, she’ll exuberantly jump up & slam her feet into our chests—oooof!   That gal can pack a punch.  Elderly, tiny, &unsteady folks might have a problem with such enthusiastic displays of affection.

Beatrice likes to swipe wet towels out of the bathroom and carry them to her bed.  She sometimes picks up throw rugs & carries them across the house.  She is really funny & verbal.She sometimes uses a growly voice to tell  you  something... no cause for alarm. It’s just her form of communication.

A few things to keep in mind about clever Miss B: (1) She chews through leashes, especially when excited. Those walks are such fun that she can’t help gettign stirred up! She'll grab another dog's leash & chew it too.  Use a chain-type leash when taking her in public or to the veterinarian or when you aren't paying close attention. (2) Probably as a holdover from her time out on her own, she has a habit of zooming through open doorways. Her new family should use babygates & teach her SIT and WAIT at doorways—and she probably shouldn’t live with kids who are too small to manage her at the door.

Happy, personable Beatrice would be best with a family who likes to take nightly walks & who will be careful at doorways.  She is too active for elderly or fragile people, or tiny children.  She is a phenomenal dog who would fit in many different kinds of households.  She is a total pleasure!

Who knows where this clever girl had been before she turned up stray one day? The lively redhead with a white face may look like a senior, but her pep & go say otherwise. A nice family discovered her just strolling down the street and took her in while they did all the usual things – posted signs, ran ads, called vets. Nobody came looking. Meanwhile,  Beatrice was busy proving herself to be a close relative of Houdini. “Secured” in the backyard, she first dug out and went out for a walk. Animal Control, knowing who was holding her, chauffeured her back home. Nothing daunted,  the resourceful dog then clambered over a low area of fencing and set out again. Nabbed once more by AC, she arrived back home – but this time with a warning. “If she gets out again, we’ll have to take her to the local pound.”  That was enough to motivate her Good Samaritan to place a pronto call to GRR.

A big girl at 73 pounds, Beatrice is a live wire! She motored into Austin and did her obligatory stray hold at the shelter, where she was a huge favorite and was allowed to hang out by the front desk. She likes to bounce around and play with other dogs. She’s fine with cats and good with kids. She needs a family who is well aware of her escape-artist skills and will keep her secure – and give her plenty of walks and exercise and interesting outings to satisfy her wanderlust. She’s healthy, happy, and ready to move right into her forever home.
