Saucy
Update: 01/03/10
Who wants 75 pounds of super-loving puppy who loves to retrieve, loves a good party (and loves to be in the middle of it), & sleeps nicely through the night (and finds things to amuse herself in the AM if you don’t share her “early to rise” philosophy)? Miss Saucy is also reliably housetrained and—I just have to put this somewhere— she has the softest fur I have ever felt on a dog. It is like bunny fur. It is thick and soft… and she loves, loves, loves to be groomed: BRUSH? DID SOMEBODY SAY BRUSH? LET ME TOTALLY INVADE YOUR PERSONAL SPACE AND ROLL OVER AND STICK MY FEET IN THE AIR AND GET BRUSHED! If you have a brush, she is your best friend.
She’s still a pup, so we are careful to crate her when we cannot watch her, as she still likes to chew! She does jump up, but she knows better—mostly jumps around you, not on you, unless she is REALLY excited.
Saucy is a little timid—she doesn’t like car rides (we are working on that), and she hits the ground if she thinks she has done something wrong. But she’s such a happy, open girl that her confidence is bound to grow in time. One thing’s for sure, she loves people. Dogs aren’t supposed to like hugs, but Saucy absolutely cannot get close enough to you! If you are stationary and she sees her chance, she’ll come over for a cuddle.
The best family for Saucy would be one who understands peppy young Golden pups & is ready to do lots of happy, upbeat training to build Saucy’s confidence and polish her manners; who loves to play “beauty salon”; and who has somewhat older children (if there are children in the home)—kids under about age 6 are a bit too easy for an enthusiastic girl to knock over.
Let us know if Saucy fits your family!
She’s actually way more sweet than saucy…
A perfect Christmas dog, little Saucy is a true sugarplum, and if you are like many families, it’s visions of dogs just like this one that are dancing in your head. She belonged to a family who moved out to the country, to a no-fence property… not a secure place for a little dog. At worst, she may have ended up the victim of a coyote; at best, an unwed mother (she was just about to go into heat when the family moved). Enter a wonderful concerned friend, who quickly took Saucy into her home (& safely fenced yard) within the city limits. Whew—safe!
Next, it was on to Step 2, finding a permanent home for Saucy. “I can’t think of a single bad thing about her,” said her new owner. Our GRR evaluator agreed: “She is the sweetest, most wonderful puppy. So gentle, loves people, has plenty of energy—not a bonkers puppy, but has appropriate energy for an 11-month-old dog! So pretty and just such a cute personality. Would love kids, would be great with another dog that won't be annoyed by a puppy, but would be fine without another dog if she got enough human company (stay-home mom would be wonderful). Just a precious sweet dog, can't say enough good things about her.” Saucy’s previous family said she was fine with their cats; in her temporary home, she barked at the two kitties—but when one of them hissed and bopped her on the nose, she retreated. Seems like she’d do just fine with a dog-savvy cat.
One other thing about Saucy – she’s got something no GRR dog in the history of our group has ever had: dog number 200. Yes, she is the 200th rescue dog for the record-breaking year of 2009!
