Good Afternoon Gold Ribbon;
I wanted to let you know how Sparky is doing now, two years later.
Sparky is now named Samson. We received Samson later in the evening in late
August 2007.
Our family had met Samson (Sparky AKA Bevo) the day before when Mrs. Wencka (GRR
Volunteer) brought him by the house to meet the family. At the time our four
kids were 13, 11,6 & 4 and Samson was about 2 months old. The kids absolutely
loved him, of course. We told the kids that he was over for a visit. They played
with Samson in the backyard while Mrs. Wencka looked over the house and the yard
and spoke to my husband and myself.
We were thrilled to receive a call the next day telling us that the adoption had
been approved and Samson could come live with us immediately. We decided to have
her bring Samson over after the two youngest children had gone to bed. So, after
8PM Samson came to his forever home. We let the older kids play with him until
it was their bedtime. Samson stayed in his crate (as all puppies should) that
evening.
The next morning we woke up the two youngest children with the help of Samson.
Our six year old girl woke up with the puppy licking her face that morning. The
first question she asked was if Samson was going to be ours forever and we were
pleased to tell her yes.
Since that day, Samson has grown into one of the sweetest, most loving, happiest
dogs we know. His favorite activity is to bring Mom or Dad the paper in the
morning. He was almost beside himself one morning when the paper wasn’t
delivered. He loves to play with his friends (neighbor’s dogs). It doesn’t seem
like Samson has met a dog or person he doesn’t love.
We constantly have adults and lots of children coming and going around the
house. Samson has always been a pleasure. Even adults that have a fear of dogs
seem to embrace Samson.
I am attaching a few pictures of Samson.
Thanks again,
Karen
Holly
...
Four-year-old Holly came to GRR near the end of June, when
her owners could no longer care for her. They knew she had an underactive
thyroid and commented that she was “a bit fat,” but when our volunteer went to
meet her… “Er… I don’t think it’s just low thyroid that is making this girl look
like a beach ball! I think she’s pregnant.” Bingo! In fact, Holly was not spayed
and had been sharing her yard with a male Golden who wasn’t neutered… and, well,
you can guess the rest. We whisked her into care and off to the vet, where an
X-ray confirmed that a Blessed Event was indeed in the offing—and very soon,
too.
If you’re interested in adopting Holly or one of her kids, just let us know! We’d love to talk to you.
