Subject: Goodbye Sweetest Sassy 02-035

Today Bryan and I had to say goodbye to our sweetest Miss Sassy, age 15.

Sassy was the sweetest, furriest, dirtiest Golden I have ever known in my
life. She joined our family as a foster dog in March 2002. I was pregnant
with our first baby, and we and our friends at GRR decided it was time for
us to foster a more sedate dog after "doing our time" with the young wild
ones. :) Sassy came to us at the age of 11 after being left in a backyard
alone for 9 months. Her family had moved to another town and were unable to
take her. She remained behind at their empty house through a summer and
winter with a neighbor feeding her. She immediately filled our house with
big blonde furry love. We were smitten and so was Ben, our other GRR. We
took her through a rough heartworm treatment and decided we couldn't part
with our old lady.

I couldn't have dreamed of a better dog for our children. Sassy was as
perfect as they come. She calmed our Ben down, she shed on everything, she
was afraid of everything, and she loved to wallow. Our hearts are just
filled to the brim with love for this old lady and the joy she brought to
us.

We are so thankful for every moment we got to spend with her, and we thank
God that she went quickly. She was just out ball chasing in her slow old
lady way on Sunday. She was helped peacefully over the bridge at the same
vet's office where we first picked her up. She was surrounded by love, and
we can't wait to see her again on the other side.

Thank you GRR for allowing us to meet, love, and share Miss Sassy.

Sassie has been a joy to welcome into our home!  She is kind, lovable, gentle, and wise.  Sassie has not minded either of the two obnoxious cats or the at-times-overwhelming year old retriever.  Her personality is very mellow and easy going, and she is more interested  in getting some loving than anything else.  Her coat is one of the thickest I've ever seen, and she LOVES to have it brushed out every night.  She will lay on the floor and let me brush until my heart's content.  Her nickname is "Hippodogamus" as she looks like a very furry, short hippo!  Sassy is clearly very spry as demonstrated by her desire to recline on the nearest couch or bed and the ease at which she leaps onto her favorite spots.  In the backyard, she is very playful and joyous; retrieving does not appear to be one of her fondest hobbies.  She will walk around with a ball in her mouth, but running after it seems to be above her princess standards.  This gorgeous lady will make a lovely addition to any family!
