Remembered
Fudge,
one of
Heidi's
female puppies was born on May 20th. Watch for more as we get to know her
personality better.
If you are interested in adopting one of Heidi's pups, please review the puppy section on our website to determine if a puppy is right for you.
The Black Gold Litter was born 5/20/01 to Heidi. Heidi arrived in the last week of her pregnancy and it was far too late to spay her. Heidi's former owner told us the father is a Chocolate Lab.
The pups have been highly socialized with other dogs, children of all ages and adults. They are amazingly healthy and happy. The Lab/Golden Retriever cross is a great mix often deliberately bred for Service & Seeing Eye dogs. The cross breeding produces what is called “Hybrid Vigor” which means they should not inherit any of the typical purebred genetic tendencies (health problems) of either Labs or Golden Retrievers. In all actuality, they should be healthier and heartier than their purebred ancestors who have been so tightly inbred.
Approximately 7/15, the pups will be 8 weeks of age and ready to go to their new, loving and forever homes. If you are interested in adopting one of the pups, please review the puppy section on our website to determine if a puppy is right for you and then fill out an adoption application ASAP. Each pup will be placed through the normal adoptive procedures of GRR. It is our goal to have their new, forever homes approved and ready to take them home as soon as they are ready to get on with their new lives!
5/21/01 - Update
Heidi and her "very dark chocolate" pups are doing fine according to their vet check. Heidi is a great mother and loves her babes. We proudly announce the debut of the "Black Gold Litter", the first litter ever born in care here at GRR.
There are 6 girls and 4 boys: Coal, Ebony, Jet, Pitch, Licorice, Pepper, Lava, Onyx, Fudge & Inky.
6/1/01- Update
All are doing well and getting bigger everyday. They are cute little butterballs who now weigh between 2-3 pounds. Their eyes should be opening shortly. Heidi is doing great and is the perfect Mommy to her brood.
6/11/01 Update
They are now three weeks old and just had their first dinner of “puppy gruel” They enjoyed it but what a mess! Their eyes are open, they are learning to walk (wobbling) and they are quite cute!
6/30/01 Update
They are all quite a handful they are learning to run and tumble. It’s hard to keep track of ten at once. They are all getting big, fat and sassy. Each is starting to develop their own personality and characteristics.
