Remembered

Whitney September 2000:

Whitney was seven last May. This red girl belonged to owners who were moving into an apartment and could no longer care for her.

Whitney LOVES to play ball. Miss Whitney will actually leap into the air to catch a tennis ball before her foster sister, Shasta, can get to it. What a surprise when I threw a ball half way across the yard and Whitney did acrobatics and came down with the ball in hour mouth and a huge grin on her face. I thought, "This is a fluke. She was just feeling her oats. She probably won't jump like that again." WRONG!! She really loves a ball game. She does tire quicker than 2 year old Shasta, but she's the first 7 year old I've fostered with that much agility. When she loses about 5 - 10 pounds, she'll be even spryer. Shasta, watch out!!

Whitney also loves children. My 6 year old neighbor came outside yesterday as we were walking (one of Whitney's favorite things to do besides ball catching) -- anyway, this young girl came over and Whitney just lit up like a candle. She let her rub her all over and give her kisses and Whitney even returned a few kisses herself.

I think Whitney will be happy with almost any type family. To my surprise, she even played tug of war with a rope tonight and almost pulled me off the couch. This girl has lots of spunk yet she is gentle and loving and willing to do whatever we ask of her.

Whitney will go to the vet tomorrow for a check of her ears which are inflamed and need some treatment. She also needs some dental work and will have her blood tested to see how everything is functioning. (I think I can tell them she is functioning pretty well!!) She has been a pleasant surprise. Her previous owners obviously loved her a great deal and she still just wants someone to lavish more love on her. We are thrilled to have Miss Whitney and help her find her forever family.

September 2004:

Our friend Whitney died of cancer.
