Holly
my name, and gentle is my game. My foster Mom says that I am a dream houseguest.
I know my manners about pottying and will use the facilities on command. I just
don’t have accidents in the house! I almost never bark, I don’t chew, I don’t
jump up on you — in short, I’m just about perfect. I know lots of commands like
SIT, STAY, DOWN, and SHAKE, and I come when you call my name.
On my long daily strolls (by the way, I don’t pull on the lead), I get lots of
attention from the neighbors. I even have a special dog friend, a German
Shepherd named Diablo — I think we are going steady. Whenever we go by his
house, I get to play in his backyard while our moms have a chat. We run like the
wind – almost like we were puppies again… I think I love him!
I love riding in cars and going to Petsmart and getting groomed and bathed. I
got A+ marks in the grooming department. I was a “dream” at the vet’s office,
too.
On Easter Sunday, I got to meet my foster mom’s family and a pony that was
walking down the street in my neighborhood. I was so good, although I am still
not exactly sure what a pony is — maybe some sort of big dog that smells like
hay?
I’m kind of a picky eater, but my foster mom promised she would find a
better-tasting food for me. In the meantime, she dresses up my dry food with all
sorts of goodies and then I eat it right down. I’m not a very big girl, as I
only weigh 59 pounds (really, I can’t believe I have to tell everyone what I
weigh – can’t a girl keep any secrets??)
About the only thing I’m not great at are thunderstorms. All that crashing and
flashing is so stressful it makes me shake like a leaf and try to hide away
somewhere! However, my foster mom does have some medicine that makes me feel a
little better. Oh, and there’s that digging thing… I’ve done a little excavating
in the flower beds three times, but I stopped every time after I was told “No!”
I guess I’m a secret gardener (but my paw is not green)!
Now, I may be little older than some of the other Gold Ribbon Rescue dogs you’ll
see up here on the web, but bear in mind: with age comes experience, better
behavior, a more laid-back approach to life… in short, a perfect companion! I
know it’s not Christmas, but a little Holly goes well in the summer, too.
